COMMENTS: Typical Vignale wood dash consol along with wood Inset panels to doors and rear quarter panels.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND: 119/004 was hand-built at Vignale. 119/004 was the first FF sold to a private customer. The buyer was Clive Carr, the Chairman of the News Of The World. Carr had previously owned Jensen cars, and part-exchanged a Jensen CV8 against the Jensen FF. Carr’s CV8 was sold by Charles Folletts to the actor Sean Connery. Carr had his personal registration number ‘1 CUC’ assigned to the FF. This was removed later and the original registration number ‘PHX 88E’ has been assigned back. A full restoration to concours condition was undertaken on behalf of the car’s owner by Cropredy Bridge Garage between 1992 and 1994. Although originality was key to the restoration, including having the car painted back into its factory colours of charcoal grey with a mist grey roof. The owner didn’t like the colour of the tan leather interior, so a full retrim in beige leather was completed by former Jensen Motors employee, Eric Ward. 119/004 won President’s Cup at the Jensen Owners’ Club Concours in 1995. 119/004 was acquired for The Jensen Museum in 2008.
CAR ARCHEOLOGY: The original transmission / four-wheel-drive system was found to be faulty and replaced by the Jensen factory in the later 1970s. The unit bearing numbers 119/172 & 102/172 being fitted. The original unit 119/005 & 102/005 was sold by Jensen Parts & Service and later purchased by the owner of Jensen FF 119/059 as a spare. This unit was acquired for The Jensen Museum in 2009. It is the long term intention of the museum, to refit this unit back into 119/004, and also to have the car trimmed back to its original tan colour.
