COMMENTS: 119/051 was the first FF to be fitted with Girling brake calipers.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND: 119/051 was ordered by film producer, Elliott Kastner. He was very particular about how the car should be finished, and asked for various minor trim modifications to be made. These included black leather wrapping the radio console and window switches, and colour coding to beige the finishers for the manual window operation. Kastner pushed for a discount from Jensen Motors on the basis he was intending to use the car in two films. The car is confirmed as being used in Kastner’s film, The Ballad of Tam Lin. The car was acquired for the Museum in 2004 directly from Elliott Kastner.
CAR ARCHEOLOGY: The car survives with its original conifer green cellulose paint. The Museum needed to have rust removed from the bonnet frame, and this was sympathetically achieved, using cellulose paint to match. The work was undertaken without damaging the original paint to the skin. Interior remains largely original, although a new carpet set had to be fitted. The Museum managed to acquire new old stock 1960s vinyl carpet edge trim, which matched the original exactly. This was used to edge the new Wilton carpet. The old carpet set was carefully cleaned and archived. When the car had been acquired from Kastner, mileage was just over 40,000 from new.
