OMEGA SEAMASTER 300 FROM 1966 – SOLD
Description
One of the iconic diving watches of the 1960s is the Omega Seamaster 300. Making its debut in 1957, it wasn’t until the model reference ‘165.024’ came out in 1964, that the Seamaster 300 took on the fight with the Rolex Submariner. Both watches were of equal quality, and both received contracts from the MOD. Today a military issue Seamaster 300 is a much desired rarity, but the standard model also ranks high in the desirability stakes, and is one of those vintage diving watch must-haves.
Item description: This stunning Omega Seamaster 300 dates from 1966. The watch has the stainless steel case with curved lugs and protected crown (with Omega logo). The dial in black with large luminous hour battons. Omega brand name and logo , along with the model designation ‘Seamaster 300’. o the outside, the black acrylic bezel ring bearing 0 – 60, and with correct notched bi-directional movement. Screw-down case-back with Omega Seamaster logo. The watch has the automatic movement Cal.552. Complete with a new old stock 1960s ‘Tropic’ divers strap, along with stainless steel Omega branded buckle.
Case size: 48mm x 42mm
Condition report: The watch in close to mint condition. Fully overhauled by in 2012 (no warranty implied). Original ‘Tropic’ diver strap new old stock from the 1960s and in unused condition. The timepiece may have been opened, so it should not be used near moisture or water without being checked by a qualified watchmaker.
Background to Omega Seamaster: The Omega Seamaster range made its debut in 1957, but it wasn’t until 1964, that the true Seamaster for diving purposes came out with the Seamaster 300. Bearing reference 165.024. The Seamaster 300 remained in production from 1964 until 1970. The Omega Seamaster 300 of the 1960s was so highly regarded as a professional diving watch that the British Ministry of defence contracted Omega to supply quantities of the ‘300’ for Royal Navy ‘special duty’ work.
