OMEGA FLIGHTMASTER – FIRST GENERATION
£4,750.00
Description
If you want a watch that gains attention, then one major contender has to be the Omega Flightmaster. Making its debut in 1969, this was a complex and massive sized watch. It takes a bold and confident individual to get away with this icon on the wrist.
Item description: One of the iconic watches of the late 1960s / 1970s, the Omega Flightmaster. As its name implies, the watch was created for aviation pilots (in fact the Flightmaster is also known to have also been worn by Soviet Cosmonauts). The timepiece utilised Omega’s calibre 910, from 1969 to 1970 (the calibre 911 was used from 1970 to 1972). This example is the so-called ‘First Generation’ from initial production in 1969, and has the rare 24 hour time register (only used for the first year’s production, and then changed to a 60 second indicator). The watch is complete with the ‘Flightmaster’ designation to the case-back. The watch is complete with its original ‘Omega’ branded stainless steel bracelet.
Case size: 52mm x 43mm
Condition report: Case in excellent to near mint condition with a nice polished and satin finish remaining (free from major scratches or other damage). Perfect plane motif to case-back, along with a clear Omega label. First generation dial original and with a nice ‘soft’ age patination. Movement particularly clean and in working condition. The movement has been recently serviced (no warranty implied). The timepiece may have been opened, so it should not be used near moisture or water without being checked by a qualified watchmaker.
Background to Omega Flightmaster: The Omega Flightmaster is a variant of the Speedmaster line designed, engineered and marketed towards ‘Pilot-Types’ by Omega from 1969 through to the early 1970s. This would be the last time that Omega developed a mechanical movement specifically designed for the needs of a pilot.
